Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, also known as “laughing gas,” is a safe and gentle sedation option that helps children feel relaxed during their dental treatments. Administered through a small mask that is placed over the nose, it takes effect within minutes, creating a calm and sometimes slightly euphoric sensation. Since nitrous oxide wears off quickly after the procedure, most children can resume normal activities right away. It’s an excellent choice for kids with mild dental anxiety or those needing minor dental work.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is a deeper level of relaxation used for children who need extensive dental work or have difficulty sitting still for long periods. Administered through a small IV in the hand or arm, this sedation method allows children to remain in a semi-conscious, deeply relaxed state while still being able to respond to gentle prompts. Our team closely monitors patients throughout the procedure to ensure their safety and comfort.

General Anesthesia

General anesthesia is used for children who require complex dental procedures or have special needs that make it difficult to complete treatment while awake. Under general anesthesia, your child will be completely asleep and have no memory of the procedure, ensuring a pain-free and stress-free experience. The anesthesia is administered and monitored by a trained anesthesiologist to ensure the highest level of safety. Afterward, children may feel groggy and should rest at home for the remainder of the day.

Hospital Sedation

Our sister practices, South Gaston and Belmont, offer general anesthesia in a hospital setting for specific situations that require more specialized attention. Our team can schedule your child’s treatment with general anesthesia at the hospital if our team and your family feels that it is the best choice for your child and their treatment plan. To learn more, please get in touch with our office, and we will be glad to provide more information.
